This article by Benjamin Dyer on Business Zone covers something we wrote about recently: disaster recovery. It’s more wide-ranging than ours, ie it covers areas beyond recovery of crucial IT services, but it reiterates the points we made. Obviously we disapprove heartily of the proprietary package the article promotes, but we still think the article is worth a mention is disaster planning is so vital and so easy. Don’t put your head in the sand – if you don’t have the time or the know-how to do it yourself, come to us and we’ll do it for you. Should disaster strike, it will be the best money you ever spent – much better than on some proprietary package, but we’re much too polite to say so.
We spoke to two local companies who experienced catastrophic flooding over the winter and had to close for weeks. I wish they’d been our clients before that happened as we could have mitigated many of the problems they suffered. We can help out after the event to some extent, but it’s more expensive, more traumatic and less successful than putting a disaster recovery plan in place. Don’t think it can’t happen to you – it can. If it does, will you be losing your business or calling us to restore your data and services?
